SAT Tutoring

SAT Tutor

The SAT has been a part of American academic life since the 1920s and while it is now rivaled (and in some cases overtaken by the ACT) it is still the benchmark of academic performance when it comes to university admission. We're the experts when it comes to SAT preparation and can guarantee better grades for any student candidate. We start with a thorough assessment of their strengths and weaknesses based on our in-depth understanding of the test itself and then tailor the course material to get the grades that student needs.

Why Take The SAT?

There isn't a college that accepts only the ACT or the SAT – they all grant places and scholarships for both exams so it doesn't matter which one you take and since the SAT was redesigned in 2016 the two tests are more similar than ever. Yes the SAT is slightly longer (but only by five minutes) and both now offer optional essay writing sections. So are they really different? A lot of people ask us that and the answer is that while at first glance they are pretty much the same there are some key differences that can affect student performance. The first is that the number of questions is different so that in SAT there are fewer and that means more time per question. That can be a crunch point with students who battle time pressure and prefer to settle in with more in-depth answers rather than a rapid fire response. The SAT contains a no-calculator math section which could be a hurdle for those whose mental math is a stress factor for them.  We'll analyze the candidate paying particular attention to these points and help you decide which exam is most likely to give you the results you want.

Science

There's a common story that the SAT has no science and the ACT does. That's not entirely true because the SAT does test scientific concepts just not in the form of a separate science section like the ACT does. Because of the profile that a separate section brings the typical science whiz will prefer to go the ACT route to show off their skills and the more science-shy choose the SAT. Still need science tutoring to cover those concepts though.

Practice Tests

One way we like to assess aptitude for SAT and ACT is to have the candidate student take full length practice tests.  That not only gives them great practice in the taking exams but it also helps steady nerves by making the whole process that much more familiar. In the process we can assess whether any individual has a great aptitude for one test over the other.  It's not unknown for candidates to take both since concurrent preparation is easier than ever as they have evolved. If however there is a clear winner and the student is obviously more comfortable with the SAT then we like to find that out as early as possible and proceed accordingly.

Optional Essay

The SAT has an optional essay section and a lot of students immediately think 'optional?' then I'm outta here. Let our experience tutors take a look at the college and the place that you're gunning for and advise you on whether it's in your interests to skip the essay or not. You can trust us to get it right and prepare you either way.
